The fine print
- What this compares. Your current average power bill of $285 a month against your solar payment of $171.07 a month, over 25 years. Utility escalated at 13.5% per year for the first 5 years, then 7% per year after that, solar at 2.90% per year.
- This year’s Ameren increase is already included. The proposal was built on an average bill of $231 a month. This page uses $285, which adds this year’s 23% Ameren Illinois rate increase, so the comparison starts from what you are actually paying now.
- Still connected to the grid. You are still connected to the utility grid and would be expected to pay a small fixed monthly rate, considered the standard connection fee.
- Ameren Illinois rates are moving. Ameren Illinois residential rates are up about 94 percent since 2021, from roughly 8 cents a kWh to about 15.5 cents a kWh in 2026, driven by rate increases approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission and a sharp rise in regional capacity prices. Past increases do not guarantee future ones.
